Encounter works with local schools and young people. St Wilfrids is situated beween Willingdon Community School and Willingdon Primary School, with Encounter we have close links with these schools.
Encounter runs a range of activities such as JAFFA (Jesus A Friend for Always) for years 3 & 4 and JAM (Jesus and Me) for years 5 & 6.
Volunteers take assemblies and R.E. classes in schools and colleges. There is also opportunity for gap year students to work with Encounter.
Encounter also runs a number of after school clubs in which they have opportunity to share the Gospel.
Tearfund St Wilfrids supports Tearfund in it’s efforts to overcome world poverty, bringing justice and transforming lives.
Tearfund has a 10 year plan to see 50 million people released from material and spiritual poverty through a worldwide network of 100,000 local churches.
St Wilfrids has a collection at our Harvest Festival as well as at other times during the year when it si appropriate, we also encourage member to support campaigns.
The Dugmores are a coupel who used to work for Encounter and are now serving in Southern Affrica where they are taking food and other essential supplies.
They are seeing God move in many ways in healing and changed lives.
St Wilfrids has for some time had a close association with Daniel and Suzy and continues to support them through prayer and ongoing contact.
News: On Thursday 22nd a team of three people will be visting Kabubbu to lead assemblies, be involved in using some of the money raised and to see how God is at work in Uganda. Please pray for Ann, John and Colin. For saftey in traveling and that they may give and receive of Christ.
The Quicken Trust “Creating a heart in Kabubbu”. Unlike some missionary agencies The Quicken Trust works in just one ‘forgotten’ village in Uganda.
Founded by Geoff and Geraldine Booker who live near Eastbourne, The Quicken Trust seeks to bring education, healthcare, welfare and employment to Kabubbo, which is around 20 mile north of Kampala, the capital of Uganda.
The Quicken Trust would see themselves as Christianity in action, they also give support to the churches in the community.
From time to time members of St Wilfrids have visited Kabubbu to offer support and meet the orphans that they support
